So refreshing sitting in your class with my son! I love your energized quick mind approach, multifarious grabbings of thought vision and sound to emerge-evince imaginative creations. A marvelous reminder to me of both being in and teaching Art classes. Carry on!
(Parent)
Dr. Beattie is an excellent instructor of vocal technique.
Her “toolkit” of vocal-pedagogical knowledge is vast and her means of communicating are direct and helpful. She engages with every possible approach to the improvement of singing: from visualization to deep body work to tailor-made vocalises approaching every possible problem of throat tension, registration, vowel quality etc. For me personally, my work with Dr. Beattie was critical in allowing me to understand crucial aspects of resonance, approaches to creating pharyngeal space, and control of cord-weight/color without sacrificing breath balance.
She sets high standards for her students and is always interested in helping them achieve ever more greatness and ease. She cares deeply for the success of each of her students and instructs with an appropriate mix of discipline & encouragement.
(UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music - Baritone Grad Student)
I had the immense pleasure of studying voice under the tutelage of Dr. Rose Beattie as a second year graduate student at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. In addition to her kind and generous spirit, Dr. Beattie came to my lessons with a judicious and discerning ear that was needed to conduct our work at a detailed, advanced level. To have a teacher with such infectious positive energy coupled with great intellectual and pedagogical aptitude is a rarity among teachers of singing, and I was lucky to have found that in Dr. Beattie.
Our lessons together were always marked by vocal progress and discovery through careful instruction and guidance, coupling the fundamentals of singing with more advanced concepts, including the physiological aspects of the singing instrument. Especially regarding these aspects, I continue to utilize the resources, literature, and research presented to me by Dr. Beattie, which have proved themselves indispensable in my ongoing study of singing.
Having the opportunity to meet, know, and work with Dr. Beattie was one of the most memorable experiences in my time at UCLA, and I am grateful to have had this opportunity. I will always carry with me everything she has taught me about life and music as I continue my journey as a singer.
(UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music - Tenor Grad Student)
Dr. Beattie is a caring, supportive, and thoughtful voice teacher.
She successfully identifies technical issues providing various solutions. Through her comments and directions, it is obvious that Dr. Beattie has a lot of experience in teaching and performing. Dr. Beattie has substantial knowledge in voice therapy and vocal pedagogy. She taught me important vocal exercises that will help me keep my voice healthy for many years.
Dr. Beattie brings powerful energy to every lesson that is very effective. She invests in her students and is present in their lives.
(UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music - Mezzo Soprano)
I had the pleasure of being Dr. Beattie’s student at UCLA this past year, and I cannot underestimate the profound influence her exceptional teaching has had over my development as a singer.
She is of a truly rare kind: of course she possesses the necessary breadth of pedagogical acumen to expertly teach the technical aspects of singing in spades, but it is her execution that sets her apart from the rest. Dr. Beattie exudes sunshine wherever she goes, thus making the learning process for the student all the more significant. She made me believe in myself when I otherwise could not; she gave me the tools and the courage I needed.
With Dr. Beattie’s guidance, my voice became significantly stronger over the course of less than an academic year, to the point that even the artistic director of LA Opera commented that my middle - a traditionally weaker part of the voice for singers in my fach - was noticeably and surprisingly consistent and solid. That comment represented the zenith of my work with Dr. Beattie, and cemented my unshakable faith in her talent as a voice teacher. She is simply - the best.

When my daughter first started working with Dr Rose she was shy and very nervous to perform solo. Three years later she is a confident, educated, beautiful vocalist. Dr Rose gives her students the tools and support to reach their full potential as artists. She is a wonderful teacher who truly invests and nurtures her students.
(Colburn Soprano - accepted to the University of Michigan School of Music)
Dr. Rose not only brings insight and knowledge to our sessions, but an adaptable approach to teaching which ensures that the concept at hand is thoroughly understood. I can honestly say I have noticed a tremendous improvement in my overall technique which has been key in preserving my voice as a touring vocalist. She takes the time to address the specific needs of the voice, as they vary from person to person, and teaches the appropriate exercises and techniques. In addition to her great teaching abilities, Dr. Rose has an incredible energy which makes lessons just as insightful as they are fun!
(Colburn School - Touring Pop Vocalist)
Dr. Rose is an AMAZING vocal instructor! So many times my daughter has said, “I need Dr. Rose! She could explain this to me and then I could sing it!” Dr. Rose tailors her instruction to an individual’s learning style by using examples with colors, movement, and shapes to explain how to create a particular sound. This passion to reach her students has reduced frustration for my young singer (it’s hard to describe sound and how to change sound within your body) and has resulted in Jessie growing and building self-confidence.
Dr. Rose has helped my daughter increase her vocal range and she taught Jessie how to put less strain on her voice to keep it healthy for years to come. There are many tools and techniques that are helping Jessie to learn about her instrument.
She’s not easy; she packs in a lot of info into every lesson; her enthusiasm is contagious; and she’s the instructor you want if you love singing and want to build a solid foundation for a future full of singing.
(Colburn Parent - Musical Theater Student)
When I came to Rose I had several years of voice training and a technical problem that still had not been solved. Within one lesson Rose specifically and correctly diagnosed the problem, gave solutions and revived my hopes in my singing ability.
– Soprano (Private Student)
As a music education major I found that Rose had a lot of knowledge about ways to improve the techniques behind the singer and the emotion and musicality needed to be a performer. She is extremely knowledgeable in vocal repertoire and is able to provide guidance on what is best for the individual singer. Rose seems to approach music from different angles shedding a new light on classical techniques through her various interpretations.
– Soprano (UCLA Music Education Student)
Rose takes everything she knows about singing and somehow finds away to help me feel and understand what it takes to sing a better note and to bring a song to life. It’s always about capturing the essence of being a true singer, and when there are breakthroughs, she’s right there to celebrate every moment.
– Baritone (Private Student)
Rose has a great energy about teaching and is extremely supportive of everyone in the class, her enthusiasm about the subject is definitely contagious—she so clearly knows her stuff.
Rose is an amazing teacher that gives the students many tools to condition the voice; she makes the class a very fun and passionate place to work in. I have been blown away by the amount of information she knows and teaches to the students, she is such a professional.
This class changed my perspective on singing, my life, thank you, I love your energy—your passion.
Rose was very knowledgeable and nice, I definitely think that I learned something valuable and that I will use it for the rest of my life; she was also very entertaining and funny, thank you Rose.
What really makes the difference in this course is Rose's passion, (this) makes the course not only enjoyable but magnetic. I really learned a lot about singing, it is nice to have some nerve-wracking time once in awhile (from learning to sing in front of others), thank you Rose.
Rose was an amazingly wonderful teacher who definitely has the experience and knowledge to teach effectively and in a really fun way, she can teach so well because she has gone through the same thing herself and knows what is truly good and right for my voice. Also, I love how she doesn't judge or say something's wrong, it is more that she wants to help us sing so we don't hurt ourselves. She is just so encouraging and loves what she does, like she said this is about making art because we love what we do—we are sending a message.
